Founded & curated by Sanele Xaba · Chapter One
Three stages. One sound.
A two-day Cape Town house-music and cultural festival rooted in Black creativity, movement and belonging. Chapter One is being developed for Summer 2026/27.
The festival
Chapter One, built around three connected energies.
Subtropic brings house music, fashion and community together in Cape Town. The programme moves between South African and international artists while remaining rooted in Black creativity and the local scenes that give the music meaning.
Origins, Crossings and Ubuntu are not rigid genre boxes. Each stage carries a different energy within the same festival world.
Origins
Joyful. Expressive. Celebratory.
A space that draws from the roots and lineage of house while keeping the energy open, warm and alive.
Crossings
Movement between cities and scenes.
A meeting point for artists, sounds and influences that travel across geography, generation and creative communities.
Ubuntu
The local pulse.
A stage grounded in South African energy, community and the sounds shaping the present moment.
